AD-Venture, the Brand and Advertising seminar on 25 September at ING Vysya Auditorium was different in many ways. Unlike other seminars that are either too academic or too business-like, AD-Venture was a charming mix of experience and knowledge. The 450-strong audience, comprising mainly students of management and commerce, were treated to the wisdom of a galaxy of top-of-the-line brand and advertising professionals - verily the movers and shakers of the industry - like Romit Chaterji, VP, Corporate Affairs, Tata Group, V. Shantakumar, CEO, Saatchi & Saatchi, Harish Bhat, COO, Tanishq, Harish Bijoor, CEO, Harish Bijoor Consults, Niranjan Natarajan, Creative Director, JWT, Ramesh Thomas, Equitor India, K.P. Unnikrishnan, Marketing Director, Sun Microsystems, Nandita Lakshmanan, CEO, The PRactice, and Anand Mathew, Creative Director, Disha Communications.

The topics that the speakers covered ranged from ‘Building a Global Indian Brand’ to ‘Understanding the Creative Process’ (using Manoj Night Shyamalan’s latest Hollywood flick, The Village, as an example). While the students were introduced to the glamorous world of advertising, they were also made to understand the real challenges that the ad-world had in store for them that enabled them to make informed career decisions. The success of the seminar lay in the caliber of its speakers.
