Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions you have always wanted to ask us.

WHAT IS THE UNIQUENESS OF THE COMMITS PROGRAMME?

Academia industry interface is the hallmark of all Commits programmes. All teachers are professionals who have many years of experience behind them. Our course directors are top notch industry professionals, who teach an entire course (like Advertising, PR or TV Journalism) and not just come for one or two guest lectures. Commits imparts the skills and the specialised knowledge required to work in complex situations in the media industry, thus treating you as professionals and not just as students.

ARE THE DEGREE AND DIPLOMA COURSES RECOGNISED IN INDIA AND ABROAD?

The degree course is recognised in India and in all countries around the world. Makhanlal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patrakarita Vishwavidhyalaya is a UGC-recognised university set up by the government. The Degree programme is just like the degree you get from say Calcutta University or Bangalore University. The PG diploma programme is more suited for students keen on shorter and more focused studies and training in a chosen area, and is well recognized by the media industry. This one year PG diploma programme can also be used for further studies abroad as the 16th year of education, which many universities demand.

WHAT ABOUT INTERNSHIPS AND PLACEMENTS?

Internships and job opportunities are assured. Commits views academics as a learning experience, and not as a passport to job placements. However, Commits assists with summer internships, which most of the time lead to pre-placement offers. PR and advertising agencies, newspapers and online news platforms, radio and television channels offer internships and also recruit from Commits every year, with each student getting at least 3-4 job opportunities.

WHAT WILL BE THE STARTING SALARY LEVELS?

Depending on the organisation and specialisation your starting salary could range between Rs.25,000 and Rs.35,000 per month.

CAN I KNOW HOW DIFFERENT IS THE COURSE AT COMMITS?

The MA (MMC) and MA (AVC) courses at Commits are one-of-their-kind. The two-year degree programme (MA-MMC) is a unique non-MBA programme for students who want to get into high opportunity and in-demand fields such as Brand Management, Advertising, Digital Media, Public Relations, Events, Retail, Corporate Communications, Copywriting, Content Management and Media Planning.

Similarly the Journalism and Audiovisual Communication (MA-AVC) course combines practical journalism across the print, television and digital platforms, with documentary filmmaking, radio and cinema, making it a unique programme covering closely-related fields specializing in visual content.

WHAT KIND OF CAMPUS LIFE CAN I EXPECT?

Though Commits operates on a 3-acre campus, with compulsory biometric attendance, professional dress code and stress on discipline and punctuality, Commits offers near-replication of the challenging work environment. Commits is NOT all work and no play! Alongside rigorous academic work there are several student-centered activities; students go for a college picnic, have a Freshers’ Party, organize Teacher’s Day, Ethnic Day and Cuisine Day, present the Student of the Year Award, and organize Bangalore’s most-sought after mega student seminar, Expressions, through which they learn teamwork, organizing skills, social behavior and professionalism. We encourage students to keep themselves physically fit, by regularly exercising or playing outdoor games on campus.

WHAT IS GLOBCOM?

Commits is the only Indian media institute to be a member of the prestigious ‘Global Communications Project and Symposium’. Commits is one of the founder-members of Globcom, an annual international student-activity involving 15 top colleges and universities from 15 countries across the world. The projects include strategies for multinational aid organisations, global corporations, countries and governments.

CAN YOU TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT COMMITS?

Learning is more experiential, personalized and intensive. With just 45 students in every course students get personal attention from experienced and professional faculty, aligning them to the real-life challenges of the media and communications industry. Commits places more emphasis on structured, independent study, and original practical work, resulting in confidence in learning and better understanding. Studying from a textbook is not encouraged. There is no gap between what is taught at Commits and what the industry expects. Courses are taught by senior journalists and media industry professionals with real-time case studies and live projects. This prepares the students for the rigorous demands of the real world. Students graduate as professionals and adjust to the challenging media work environment easily.

CAN YOU TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT THE ALUMNI?

We take great pride in our well-placed alumni network. They chip in with career advice and help with internships and placements. Some of the who’s who in the Indian and international media industry are our alumni.

HOW COOL IS IT TO STUDY AT COMMITS?

The emphasis is on the fundamentals. We believe that education is for life and not to earn a mere living and so stress on personal and professional discipline. While the students are given freedom to study and explore, any personal habit that is against the values and ethos of the college is not encouraged. We advise the students against indulging in unwarranted social and political behavior.

ARE STUDENT LOANS AVAILABLE?

All banks extend student education loans to our students. We issue the documents as per the requirements of each bank. We strongly advise students to take bank loans to fund their education themselves because it imparts a certain discipline and responsibility in them.

DO YOU HAVE HOSTEL FACILITIES?

Yes, we have hostel facilities within campus on sharing basis. (Check Hostel link in Admissions section for details.)
