CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME IN VIDEO JOURNALISM
DURATION: 2 months (48 hours)
SCHEDULE: 1 day a week (2 hours) + 1 weekend 4 hours
THEORY CLASSES: All theory classes/television news viewing sessions will be held at the Commits campus in HSR Layout, and practical sessions at the Foresee Multimedia studio on Infantry Road
ELIGIBILITY: Students and working professionals and anyone interested in Video Journalism
AGE LIMIT: Age 18 onwards (high school and above)
ATTENDANCE: Being a practical certificate programme attendance is compulsory at all face to face and project sessions
COURSE FEES: INR 60,000 (+ 18% GST)
BATCH STRENGTH: Minimum 5; Maximum 20

COURSE DIRECTORS: Senior television journalists and videographers
PRACTICAL WORK: Students will be given the opportunity to work ‘Live’ at Foresee Multimedia, Bangalore, and play an active part in its projects during the course of their study. They will be also required to produce their own ‘Video
News’ snippets and ‘News Features’ (4 in total) at the end of the course.

There is an ever-growing need for filmmaking skill/talent across various sectors today, there is great demand for visual professionals with expertise and skill in creating, scripting and producing short films for brands, public and social causes, and news.
Visual Communication as a discipline is extremely important in today’s social media context, highly specialized and evolving constantly.
The Video Journalism short term course will be a unique, one-of- its-kind programme that will train and prepare anyone who wants to be a ‘visual news specialist’. The course will also address the basic myths and misconceptions about Journalism, news production, and give an insight into the media industry.

- Finding a story- news and features
- Doing research about the story
- How to effectively tell a story / convey the message visually

- What to prepare for, during the production
- The actual shoot - what to expect
- Interacting and communicating with your team
- Post production
- Meeting deadlines and budgets, if any
- General awareness across fields
- Non-judgmental understanding of news and events
- Curiosity, empathy without being emotional or biased
- Interpersonal skills
The course will adopt a persistent approach towards research and a strong
uncompromising focus on getting the facts right.
COURSE WILL STRESS ON
Observation: What is observation? How to develop the art of observation? How does observation improve your skills as a video journalist?
Ideas: Getting ideas, converting the idea into a final product
Feel: What is feel? How to developing the art of feeling, What does feel mean in scripting, direction, videography, editing and sound?
Think: Who is a thinking journalist? What is ‘thinking’ in a news story? Developing the art of THINKING.
Communication: What is communication? What we lack when we communicate? Lack of adequate and effective communication today. The importance of communication in video journalism, communicating and understanding,
developing the art of communication, in the context of video journalist how will you communicate with your small team?
All students should bring their own cameras/laptops along with legal software.
All the classes will be conducted by professionals from the field.
Experts will be called in to share their experiences.
The syllabus is directed towards making a career in the field.
All the above will include knowledge of software and the aesthetics of the field.
The studio resources at Foresee Multimedia will be used for hands-on experience.
